Practice Makes Perfect
At City Springs, every class participates in daily circle discussions. This allows a time for the students to build their social skills, resolve any issues in the classroom, and develop strong positive relationships with their teachers and peers. Circles provide space for students to share their thoughts on topics they care about, and it encourages the ability to listen to others.
Recently in Ms. Glewwe’s kindergarten class, the students focused on leadership during their daily circle discussions. Leadership is an important value at City Springs. It teaches the students to take initiative and to be active decision makers. They discussed both famous leaders and important figures in their own lives and talked about how they can follow their positive examples.
Students also identified specific skills that they could practice becoming a stronger leader. These skills include speaking in front of groups of people, identifying their personal strengths and weaknesses, developing their organizational skills, and practicing cooperation with others.
