Our Community

The Heart of the Community

City Springs has been serving Southeast Baltimore including Baltimore’s former Perkins Homes public housing for decades. The Perkins Homes were originally built as housing for World War II veterans who worked in Baltimore’s docks and factories. Following World War II, they became public housing, with City Springs Elementary / Middle School built in 1966 and named for the underground spring in the area.

In 2019, the Housing Authority of Baltimore City demolished Perkins Homes and is rebuilding a mixed-income community, to be completed by late 2025.

How We Serve Our Students and Families

Our success depends on the health and wellbeing of our students, families, and community. As part of the community school strategy, we provide extensive, wrap-around services to give our students and families the support and care they need to thrive.

As a community school, we work together with families and community partners to tailor our approach to meet the unique needs of your family and the neighborhood. Our full-time Community School Site Coordinator brings together resources to improve student learning and create stronger families and healthy communities.

Elev8 Baltimore, our community school lead agency, works closely with us to ensure that every program and outreach is meeting the needs of the community.
